So this guy walks into a blog...

It’s time to hit the books again, or at least, write another one.

Its takes me about a year to finish a novel, and that’s before research.  Monday I’ll be starting research mode again so I can meet my Christmas of 2016 deadline for my next novel (The DickWhisperer) that means blogging will take a backseat and become intermittent at best.
If you want to stay abreast of funnies and news I’ll still be sharing things I find interesting, but don’t require writing, to the DAN-isms.com facebook page.  In the meantime, please pick up a copy of my last novel “Cockblocked by Jesus” or read this sample here, and tell your friends about it.

News on my upcoming novel “The DickWhisperer” will be over at DAN-isms.com under Novels News as info becomes available.

A massive thank you to all the people who keep coming back to the site and that continue to encourage me, you make it possible for an antisocial misfit to be brave enough to bash out more words.

So my fellow nerds, until next we meet, live long and prosper.

Meet the biggest game ever made

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com
No Man's Sky is the biggest game ever made, describing itself as a universe sized game built by infinite procedurally generated galaxy.  Short version, the game builds itself, and just keeps building.  To understand just how big this game is watch the E3 presentation above.

FIFA 16 trailer drops... and it's timing is awkward

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com

This is an awkward time for FIFA right now. The biggest scandal since the organisations inception has just hit, their president of 17 years just stepped down, and their treatment of women's soccer has come under fire - so the timing of the FIFA16 trailer... it's just bad.  On the upside it's the first time that women's soccer teams have been included in the game, however even this was met with vitriol from some fans.

Don't get me wrong, while I'm a massive fan of the series I'm not the guy who needs to buy a new copy of FIFA every year, so while I'm happy to see a new FIFA and while it looks great, I'm kind of just "meh" as well.  I'm very happy with FIFA15 so the inclusions of women's teams is the only new exciting thing in FIFA16, and seeing as the women's world cup is struggling to fill stadiums with a capacity of only 30,000 people, I doubt I'm alone in saying that it's not enough to make me part with my money.

Still if you haven't bought FIFA15, this newest version of FIFA definitely looks like something you should invest in.

Dishonored 2 Trailer arrives

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com
Dishonored was one of the best games to hit the PC in a decade.  When I first saw Dishonored I thought it was interesting, but probably just more of the same of every-assassin-game that is out there at the moment, and while it's Victorian steam-punk setting gives it a point of difference from most other games of its kind, your magical abilities are what make this game. Teleporting from building to building in the original game made me giggle with glee - I was the billy-goat roof-top assassin, no ledge to small, no crook or crag out of my reach.  Therefore I have been eagerly anticipating a sequel, and thankfully this trailer for Dishonored 2 has finally been released.

HITMAN returns and is so beautiful I want to marry it

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com

Holy Mc-Jesus-Balls, this game is pretty.

I have long been romantically involved with the Hitman series and have followed it since the fist game Agent 47 appeared in.  When one of my mates sent me the link to this trailer this morning I had to towel down the screen and keyboard, I made that big a splooge-face.

If you've never played the Hitman saga (What is wrong with you?) it follows a genetically created assassin who you use to complete jobs that are assigned to you.  Look, just watch the trailer for the new one and buy all the old ones.

SWTOR - Knights of the Fallen Empire

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com

The Star Wars universe makes me giddy with man-joy, I just can't help it.  Every time I see a Star Wars trailer I get a stupid grin on my face akin to the first time a girl asks if you want see her boobs, I'm that happy.

The latest expansion to Star Wars The Old Republic has arrived, Knights of the Fallen Empire and like everything else attached to TOR, it looks awesome.  Check it out.

Horizon Zero Dawn will have you fighting something unexpected

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com

E3 is the gift that keeps on giving this year with epic game after epic game being announced.  One of the challenges in gaming is finding anything even remotely new and fresh with the gaming industry following the rest of the entertainment industry in pimping out sequel after prequel after spin off of existing successful franchises - with one noticeable exception, Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Horizon starts out the same as almost every other game of its ilk at the moment, on post apocalyptic earth, and quickly steps sideways into "what the fu...."

Short version, check out the trailer.

Arr me hearties! SEA OF THIEVES is coming soon

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com
I am a nut, for good pirate games - of which there are very, very, few.  Maybe it's my dirt-poor childhood speaking but there's something massively satisfying about stealing from the rich and giving to the... well, me.  While I still think Sea Dogs is the greatest pirate game I've ever played, with the original Port Royale a close second, I have real hope that Sea of Thieves will be as good as this trailer looks.

Prepare for the DOOM reboot

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com

DOOM (along with Wolfenstein) was the beginnning of parents losing their shit about videogames - you know, the ones who decided that violence didn't exist until we ported it to the PC and console.  For me, the parental stigma attached to DOOM just made me want it more.  At this years E3 Bethesda announced they would be rebooting the series, here's the the trailer for the reboot.

Get ready to return to MASS EFFECT

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com
Mass Effect is one of the few series I've replayed repeatedly from start to finish, the entire franchise is that good.  As you can imagine when the trailer for MASS EFFECT: ANDROMEDA was released at E3, I lost my marbles.

This is what Aryn Flynn had to say about the upcoming game:

Night Terrors might be your next Survival Horror

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com

I like a good horror game, I like a good survival game... I'm never sure about when those two converge if it means the only thing you are armed with is your d*ck in your hands.

Night Terrors looks scary, don't get me wrong, but I tend to get pretty irked by games that surround you with things that could be turned into makeshift weapons - like a freaking heavy lamp or a bottle of bourbon - and won't let you use them as such. But if scarey is what you are after, and if that kind of thing doesn't irk you, Night Terrors might be exactly what you are looking for...

Pics from the set of the upcoming NETFLIX X-Files series

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com

X-Files makes me man-moist in ways there aren't words for, and not just because I'd seriously consider attempting to go man-love-gay for David Duchovny, particularly if he said Gillian Anderson would join us.

When I was a kid The X-Files was the one show you didn't miss, it just wasn't done - it was like the 90's version of Game of Thrones (as in, missing it meant social death).  The day after each episode screened, my school devolved into non-stop X-File debates as to where the series was going and why David or Gillian were the hottest people to have ever lived.  I personally was very grateful for that particular foible as it meant I stopped being beaten up as much in high school, because suddenly, sci-fi was cool.  Whereas my previous nerd fetishism for Star Trek, Star Wars, Dr Who and BattleStar Galactica were weird, now they were almost mainstream, purely because Sci-Fi was in; so on a personal level, thank you X-files for helping me keep all my teeth despite my uber nerdiness.

The new series of X-Files is coming to us courtesy of Netflix and as you can see from the pics below features Community's Joel McHale, as a conservative news reporter, who eventually becomes a source for Duchovny's character of Mulder.

The show is set to debut at the start of January next year, and I have to say - I'm psyched!

Behind the scenes of the Game of Thrones, massacre by the dead

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com

WARNING, SPOILERS.

The most impressive thing to happen on Game of Thrones Season 5 was the massacre by the army of the dead.  The whole episode was beautifully set up in a such a way that you felt pretty safe, and then the mist came... and the dead with it.  I was sure this episode was the end of John Snow and was pretty pleased with how things went.

The good people over at GOT have put together a behind the scenes showing how the massacre by the dead was put together, so if you're a fan of the series, check it out.

The first Steam machines will be on shelves Nov 10

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com

This is one of those stories that I've peripherally stayed abreast of.  Valve, the wonderful people behind more awesome games than god and of course the Steam system, have put out a gaming console designed specifically to play PC games.

There's always been a divide between console games and PC gamers based on the low end cost and easy setup of consoles but overall higher quality of PC games. The steam box is meant to cross that divide by letting you play PC games at PC quality on a pre-assembled Steam console box.  It's an intriguing idea and I really can't tell if it's a fail waiting to happen or the next giant console killer.  For all the details on what's happening with the Steam box check out this article by Polygon here.

Star Trek: Renegades, will be your next ST TV series

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com

I have no idea how I've never heard of this before as I am a massive Star Trek fan.  Tim Russ, best known as Tuvoc on Star Trek:Voyager, has somehow cobbled together a series of regulars from Voyager, Deep Space Nine, The Original Series and other cult sci-fi series and received funding via an Indi-go-go campaign to create a new Star Trek series.

"Star Trek: Renegades is an independently produced television pilot for a new Star Trek series. Several former Star Trek actors will appear, including Walter Koenig, Robert Picardo, Manu Intiraymi, and Tim Russ. Tim Russ will also direct the pilot." (Wiki)

I have no idea if this will be awesome of awful but the casting is amazing and the trailer looks quite promising.  Here's to hoping it's a win.

Fallout 4 announcement imminent

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com
As of right now, in roughly 9 hours you're going to be able to see some movement regarding an announcement for the massively anticipated Fallout 4, via this link here:

ANNOUNCEMENT LINK

If you're unfamiliar with Fallout, well then I have no idea what you're doing on this site cause clearly you've been living under a rock for years now.  The Fallout series is probably the most popular post-apocalyptic RPG ever created and fans have been clamouring for another installment for years. With E3 just around the corner it's mildly surprising that Bethesda is doing the announcement online rather than at the event, but it probably means that all we're going to get is the tiny teaser for the upcoming game.

Smart Phones and Smart... Pants?

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com

This is one of those moments where I get feel old, real old, cause... I don't entirely get it.

In an announcement that sounds like an article straight off "TheOnion.com", Google announced that it is teaming up with Levi Jeans to make smart pants as part of something called "Project Jacquard".  The plan is to turn your everyday jeans into "a virtual sync centre for your phone".  So all your mobile devices, your phone, your tablet, your ipad etc will be able to sync... via your pants.

The jeans will include bluetooth connectivity and a power source.

“As far as yarn thickness goes, we’re not almost in the same ballpark,” said Dillinger “We are already in the same ballpark. Google has accepted the supply chain for what it is and there’s no modification for any of the looms as we’ve been working with this.
Fundamentally, this is empowering the garment as a platform, not the garment as a device,” he added.
Does this mean I can use my ass to hack people in the future?  Like, use my jeans as a listening device for anyone with an unsecure blue tooth device? If so, I suppose that means there is finally a chance that lonely basement dwelling tech nerds (like me) will get into someone else's pants.

XCOM2 trailer revealed

XCOM1 is still sitting in my Steam folder waiting to be played because I'm slack and the idea of learning a game instead of just playing something I already know feels less like gaming and more like... work.  But it received rave reviews.

The trailer for XCOM2 was just released and I have to admit, I'm tickled enough to think I might finally crack open XCOM1 - in the meantime if you're an existing fan of the franchise check out the video.

Chris Pine joins the DC Universe

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com

While Chris Pine is a staple of the Nerdgasm universe thanks to his work as Captain Kirk in the Star Trek remakes it looks like we'll be seeing more of him on the site thanks to him recently adding his name to the upcoming Wonder Woman movie.  Chris will play the role of Steve Trevor who is Wonder Woman's love interest in the movie. Scott Eastwood was thought to originally get the part but decided to sign up for a small role in Suicide Squad instead.

Shia LeBeouf gives Vader a pep-talk

Nerdgasms
@ DAN-isms.com

I like Shia LeBeouf, if I met him, I'd buy him a beer.  Has Shia gone nutty? Sure. Do I give a damn?  Not at all.  My family was well and truly "over 9000" on the bat-shit scale and Goodna, the charming suburb in which I grew up, is no stranger to rats tails.

Recently Shia assisted with a student project that went viral on the internet and snippets of it have been recut and put all over the internet, the latest being 1) a fake TED talk 2) the talk recut to scenes from Star Wars.  Check out the Sith pep talk above and if you want to see the original it's below.
