There have been about a billion renditions of the song "Uptown Funk", but this ones not for muggles. Dark Lord Funk is a parody of the Harry Potter Saga set to UptownFunk told from Voldemort's perspective.
If Ubisoft was just one guy hanging out in a dingy bar, I could be convinced to give him a handy - I love their games that much. Fortunately if you love their Rainbow Six series, no handies are required to be a part of their alpha and beta testing, instead you just need to sign up!
This is not your traditional shuffle-and-moan zombie movie.
I was actually pretty pissed when I first heard about Maggie. I'd had plans for a little while to write a non-traditional horror novel revolving around a father trying to come to terms with his son being infected by the zombie virus. As I was writing the outline, I stumbled across the pitch for "Maggie"... then threw the outline away.
Maggie follows Arnold Schwarzenegger as the father of a girl infected with the zombie virus and follows her slow gritty descent into becoming a member of the infected. Rather than focus on "grrr brains" it allows the viewer to observe the human aspect of watching someone you love slowly succumb to a disease, supporting that someone you love, regardless of the consequences.
Mallrats is one of the greatest movies of all time featuring the every delightful Jay and Silent Bob from Clerks fame. The above is the first pic released from the set of the sequel being filmed
Dragon Ages Inquisition is one of my more infamous "aw fack it" moments in gaming history. I was playing the first one when I think a new Mass Effect came out, causing me to halt play of Dragon Age... then my hardddrive corrupted and the idea of starting Dragon Age from the start again was so onorious that I just put the entire series on hold...
But my friends love the hell out of all them and the game-play looks awesome, so here, enjoy the trailer for the latest.
Think you know your way around the internet? That you're down with all the most popular nerdgasmy sites? This video will test you as it parodies what the internet would like if it was a highschool.
There was a period of time where action heroes didn't need to come from comic books to be awesome, and Tom Cruise owned that period of time. Is Tom's religion screwy?* Sure. Does it appear in the movie? No, so who gives a damn about his personal beliefs. Tom can portray an action hero like few people on the planet - he's a freaking action star - full stop.
Unfortunately a few of his last movies (eg Jack Reacher) sucked, not because of Tom mind you - he performed his part perfectly - the movies sucked because the action genre has been politicised into the ground. Men aren't allowed to rescue anyone anymore unless you're related to rescuee (eg Taken). Action movies once celebrated masculinity, and somewhere in the bid to empower women it was decided that we're not allowed to celebrate men-bravely-doing-things which is amazing as the majority of all heroic work (work that requires you to potentially sacrifice your life in service to another) such as fireman, policeman, soldier etc continues to be represented almost completely by men.
But fuck those guys right...? *cough* Down with the Patriarchy *cough*
Sorry, getting off my soapbox.
This movie looks awesome, largely because it actually looks like an action movie - buff guys are buff, sexy ladies are sexy - EVERYONE kicks ass... The people in this are an action TEAM.
That ladies and gentlemen, is how an action movie is supposed to look *I seriously question the judgement of people who have a problem if a spaceship brought your religions holy message... but are fine with idea that the world is damned because talking snake lied to the worlds first woman, short version all religion is weird and I don't care what your personal beliefs are if you make a damn good movie - art is separate from artist.
Veronica Mars was awesome, in that "quirky, wierd, yet completely watchable" kind of way. I suspect strongly that I, Zombie is about to follow in it's footsteps, which makes sense as both are created by the same people.
I, Zombie follows a young crime-solving-zombie... instead of young crime-solving-student, but still looks pretty good. Check out the trailer.
Community is one of the greatest things to every hit the small screen. Personally, if Alison Brie made a commercial for adult-incontinence... I'd still watch it, I love her that much - the fact the Community happens to be awesome is just an added bonus.
There is a god, Alison Brie be thy name *Insert the chorus of angels here*
The series died recently but to my utter glee was resurrected by Yahoo as a webseries so if you're in America you can watch it here... unfortunately, like most things in life, it isn't availabe to Australians.
YO! America entertainment corporations - do you know why Australia has the highest number of internet pirates per capita? Because you morons won't let us get your content through legimate channels.
Not that I condone piracy.
'Scuse me, I need to go polish my peg leg and cutlass now.
I kind of worship the ground Joss Whedon walks on so when Firefly originally came out I was so excited I near wet myself... then watched it and went "WTF is this?" Sometimes the timing of things is just wrong and I think that was Firefly's problem, because when I rewatched it I was ready for it and thought it had some of best quips and characters ever to hit the small and large screen. Central to that series were the actors behind the captain and pilot team, Nathan and Alan, who started an Indiegogo campaign to create a series called "Conman" - annnnd who have successfully reached their funding goal.
Tudyk said this to Entertainment Weekly about the project:
“It’s about the convention world,” says Tudyk, who is also the show’s
creator, writer, and director. “My character, Wray Nerely, was on a
science fiction show called Spectrum, that was canceled too soon, and
now he goes to conventions, to sign head shots, and meet fans, and do
panels. Nathan’s character, Jack Moore, who was the captain of the
spaceship on Spectrum, has gone on to incredible action-hero stardom,
like Matt Damon. My character is frustrated with his situation and
frustrated by Jack’s stardom. We follow Wray’s story as he goes to the
conventions and does video game voiceovers and we are going to populate
it with sci-fi actors and people that you will find at conventions. Zany
hi-jinks ensue!”
I've played one Battlefield incarnation once... like... when it started. I kind of went "meh" and moved on because I still haven't found a war FPS as much as as the very oldschool Day of Defeat mod for the original Half-life (yeaaaah, that old).
However this trailer for the new Battlefield multiplayer Heist-mode looks sweet as.
When I saw the plot description for "The Leviathan" I strongly suspected that it's plot was created by imbibing heavily of illicit substances - but the proof of concept trailer is amazing! I don't know if this is a movie or a series but I'd watch it. Created by Oscar nominated director Ruairi Robinson it is the tale of a group of humans "hunting and harvesting the eggs of the largest species encountered by man - the space whale - in the name of travel unbounded by the speed of light."
Drugs right? This is Moby Dick in space courtesy of a lot of drugs? Who cares how it happened - it still looks awesome.
Mortal Kombat has made me incredibly man-moist since I was like 12 or 13 years old and continues to impress with every incarnation. I am a big supernatural horror fan so when the last series brought out Freddy Krueger as a playable character I was delighted. Mortal Kombat X continues the franchises wow factor, this time by adding Slasher Horror classic frontman Jason Voorhee's...
Does this mean we can see a Jason vs Freddy future fight?
Also check out the amazing Brutalities that will be in this MK version.
Microsoft Internet Explorer has been the bane of programmers and basic internet browsing for years, and while IE10 onwards were actually fine the IE brand has become such an online laughing stock that Microsoft is phasing the browser out to launch a brand new one, called Spartan.
Want to see a hilarious tongue in cheek look at IE's demise? Check it out here:
Just when you didn't know what to get your kid (or significant other) for Christmas comes this, a full-scale 10 foot toy replica of the Hulkbuster suit from the next Avengers movie.
"Scientifically Accurate" is one of the best YouTube series around. They've just taken on cartoon cult classic Pinky and the Brain in this scientifically accurate remake of the series, check it out.
I'm a bit odd compared to most Australians and one of the reasons for that is that I love NFL.
American Football isn't played here in Australia but I was given the chance to a play flag football version of it vs the seniors during my first year of high school... and I instantly fell in love with the role of sacker. I did most of my growing during my junior year, and as I'd spent almost the entirety of my primary school years running as fast as I could in the opposite direction of the racist f***wits that I grew up with, I had become stocky but insanely fast (by year 9 my 100m sprint was at 10.2 seconds, I was told I'd have crack 10 seconds to qualify for a position at the Olympics, but never could get under 10 seconds). Stocky and quick made me perfect for the role of sacker.
In year 10 I was introduced to something else also - Warhammer.
Bloodbowl is American Football meets the bloodthirsty universe of Warhammer Fantasy Battle, a game in which you can not only sack your opponents, you can kill them, bribe the ref, and lead a horde of fantasy units to herioc, glorious victory.
Check out this GameSpot look at Bloodbowl 2.
P.S.
If you like this kind of thing and want a smaller faster version of something like this, dust off your old XBOX and play a game called Deathrow, it's freaking awesome fun.
The Princess Bride was a staple for just about any kid that lived through the 80's, it had to be watched. I personally put my 8 year old through it just a little while ago and he loved it (I still did too surprisingly).
The latest fantasy genre contender is The Game of Thrones, which is the best fantasy screen adaption there has ever been (not the best fantasy series, *cough* Wheel of Time saga by Robert Jordan *cough*) and strangely the two marry together pretty well.
I just binge re-watched the entire series of House MD so seeing Hugh Laurie in anything new makes me dance a little on the inside. This is Disney's latest offering Tomorrowland which also features George Clooney, is directed by Brad Bird (Mission Impossible Ghost Protocal, The Incredibles) and is written by Damon Lindelf (Lost, Prometheus).
So... forever ago there was a TV series that basically was a pun on Batman and Robin by Sid and Marty Kroft called Electra Woman And Dyna Girl. The show is being remade as a web series that follows a pair of crime fighters who move from Akron to Los Angeles to try and make it big in the crime fighting game... only to find out there's a lot of superhero infighting.
It's pretty silly/funny kind of stuff, but I think it will actually be good.
More news of the cast line-up has been released which should make fans of Xena: Warrior Princess, Battlestar Galactica and Blood and Sand very happy, because Lucy Lawless is joining the series as the character Ruby, a hunter who blames Ash for the presence of the Deadites (aka Bruce).
Via Starz:
Ruby is a mysterious figure who is myopic in her quest to hunt down the
source of the recent Evil outbreaks. The only problem: she believes
that Ash (Bruce Campbell) is the cause of it all.
Lawless joins previously announced cast members Bruce Campbell (Ashley
J. Williams), Ray Santiago (Pablo Simon Bolivar), Dana DeLorenzo (Kelly
Maxwell) and Jill Marie Jones (Amanda Fisher). The STARZ Original
series “Ash vs Evil Dead” will be 10 half-hour episodes. Bruce Campbell
will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and
chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding
responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the EvilDead. When a
Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally
forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out,
has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.
Raimi will direct the first episode of “Ash vs Evil Dead” that he wrote
with Ivan Raimi (Darkman, Army of Darkness, Drag Me to Hell), Craig
DiGregorio (“Workaholics,” “Chuck”) and Tom Spezialy (“Chuck,” “Reaper,”
“Desperate Housewives”). Raimi will also serve as executive producer,
along with Rob Tapert (Evil Dead, “Spartacus,” Xena: Warrior Princess”)
and Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, “Burn Notice”) along with Craig
DiGregorio (“Workaholics,” “Chuck”) who will serve as executive
producer/showrunner. Ivan Raimi will co-executive produce and Aaron Lam
(“Spartacus”) will serve as producer.
The show will also include Ray Santiago, Dana Delorenzo, and Jill Marie Jones in 10 half hours shows.
Daredevil promo material has slowly. but steadily, been leaking onto the net. This is the latest promo for the upcoming original Netflix series and it looks pretty sweet.
Furious 7 makes me man-moist in ways there aren't words for. I love the franchise to pieces - but I used to also drive a Toyota Supra, so... Japanese imports are clearly something that make me happy. This is the latest trailer for the series and it looks fantastic.
If you're a fan of TV's Glee (or The Fappening...) you'll be well and truly familiar with Melissa Benoist who oozes so much "I'm a freaking goody-two-shoe-all-American" that it's hard to picture her as anything else. Fortunately it's a quality she can bank on as Clark Kent's cousin, Supergirl. Melissa will become the latest incarnation of the Supergirl franchise thanks to a TV series by CBS. See the first pic of her as Supergirl below:
If you've followed this blog for a while you'll know that I've been planning for the zombie apocalypse since I was about eight (even though I don't believe it will happen). Well now thanks to the CDC, I (and you) can see how long it would take an actual zombie apocalypse to take over America - providing nothing was done to stop it, and 'infected' but not dead people didn't flee after they were attacked, taking the virus to multiple other infection points.
When I turned 21 (before online gaming got real in Australia) I started running the tech department for a private college... which meant I was able to take home spares of network hubs, routers and old outdated (but upgradeable) pc's. I also had an entire downstairs level in my home with nothing in it...
Thereafter I created just one giant PC gaming LAN of Doom and my house became the every other weekend gaming Mecca with every person I knew with an interest in gaming coming by my place for LANFEST. One of the great staples of that fest? Unreal Tournament.
Unreal Tournament has remained a staple, in it's various incarnations, for over a decade for many FPS gamers because there is nothing as sweet as zero-grav jumping from side of the map to the other and fragging someone in mid air as you do so. Unreal Tournament 4 is now in it's alpha and you can click here to sign up and become part of their playing / testing community.
If you're a PC gamer or even just a fan of the Half-life series you're going to be a familiar with Valve. Well Valve have joined forces with HTC - probably best known for making phones - to bring out a new VR Headset, The headset runs at 1200x1080 resolution at 90 FPS which is supposed to compensate for feelings of vertigo, a complaint that was common with the competing product - Oculus.
The product is set to go hand in hand with Valve's new Steam VR base stations. Anyway, the trailer for it looks cool - check out the video above!
Ever wonder what kind of superhero Superman would be if he suffered from OCD? Wonder no more, instead watch this video and enjoy a large round of "ooookaaay thennnnn..."
If you're as old as I am, you'll know what a floppy disk is, also the fact that they only stored 1.2 MB of data and were huge.
MicroSD cards are just really freaking small floppies that can store re-donk-u-lous amounts of data. Well now you can store even more data as Sandisk has unveiled this latest 200GB offering. The card currently costs US$400 with transfer speeds of 90MB/sec - enabling you to lose all the digital crap you own at once after you misplace this tiny thing.
I like me a good adventure game and while I think anything by Telltale Games should be your first point of call for adventure gaming, a few other games have caught my eye, most especially, Firewatch.
Firewatch places you in the role of Henry who is a down-on-his-luck Wyoming Fire-Lookout that reports to his supervisor, Delilah. Believe it or not, the interaction between these two characters is what made me decide I wanted to play this game. If there is one thing in life that makes me stupidly happy it's banter, you know, witticisms traded back and forth in quick succession? Well
the scripted interactions between Henry and Delilah are lovely and will make you smile as they trade lines.
That aside, Firewatch has fantastic ambient sound, the graphics are lovely and it has a wonderful way of drawing you in for every scene. But don't take my word for it, check out
the video above which is an IGN walkthrough of the first 17 mins and see
what you think.
People get shitty when you take away their toys, or like, change them significantly. Follow anything with a cult fanbase ever and this will be of absolutely no surprise to you, I mean if you want to see true rage just show a Star Trek, Star Wars, Harry Potter fan this and prepare for fireworks.
Spiderman fans are up in arms because word is the next Spiderman will be black. I raised my eyebrows for half a second at this and then went "m'kay" and moved on, but the internet has whole sections of fanboys/girls losing their freaking minds... which I find a little bit funny, cause Spiderman's been black for ages... (Spoilers ahead)
This is one of those moments where I go "I hope your programming department is awesome because your marketing department needs to be shot in the face at close range".
Unkilled is probably one of the worst names for a game I've ever heard, I mean I get it - Undead / Unkilled - but it lacks any form of grit or horror-overtone and in part feels like the person who thought of it had a "3-year-old with crayons" grasp of the English language. Still... it looks decent. If you're into the run'n'gun zombie shooter it might be for you. Check out the trailer above and see what you think.
The latest expansion for Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor has arrived, aptly title Bright Lord. If you've played the game you'll be familiar with the bright wraith Celembrimbor who is part and parcel of your playthrough of the core storyline, in this add-on you get to play as Celembrimbor (try saying that 10 times real fast?) himself. For more information on the game head over to Shadow of Mordor site and check out some of the fun new toys:
