How would you like to see an XBOX one or PS4 cut to pieces by a chainsaw?

These guys pit two consoles against each other in a test to see which can take "the most battle damage" with the loser being cut in half of a chainsaw.  Why?  For... science.

The animated adventures of Buffy with all the original cast

Nerdgasms

Stephen Byrne is an artist with a penchant for the nerdgasm and has recently put together an opening to a show he's called "The animated adventurs of Buffy".  There was an attempt at something like this a few years ago that didn't really go anywhere but could this be a sign of things to come?

The Avatar Sequel "You'll shit yourself with your mouth open"

Nerdgasms

@ DAN-isms.com

James Cameron just became my film promotion hero.  When asked what the sequel to Avatar would be like his response was "They're gonna be bitchin'.  You will shit yourself with your mouth wide open."

The man's a freaking poet.

(story via Empire Online)

While Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Fives Armies hogs the New Zealand limelight, a quiet corner of the North Island houses James Cameron as he beavers away on the scripts for his next two Avatar films, currently known as Avatar23  and 4 but soon no doubt to be furnished with sexier, more descriptive titles. ‘Eywa Hard With A Vengeance’, that kind of thing.
“I can tell you one thing about them,” Cameron laughs when Empire nonchalantly enquires about storylines. “They’re gonna be bitchin’. You will shit yourself with your mouth wide open.”
Despite early rumours of a move to 60 frames per second, 48 is Cameron’s choice of frame rate for the sequels. “My thinking at the time was that 60 [FPS] might be a better segue to the video market,” he says. “I’ll be plugging into a system that’s a little more mature, so it makes sense for me to do 48 frames at this point.”
The writer/director has divided the two scripts across a writing team that includes Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno. “I think we met for seven months and we whiteboarded out every scene in every film together,” Cameron explains, “and I didn’t assign each writer which film they were going to work on until the last day. I knew if I assigned them their scripts ahead of time, they’d tune out every time we were talking about the other movie,” he laughs.
As part of January’s Peter Jackson-edited issue, Cameron also chatted about his burgeoning relationship with the Kiwi filmmaking doyen. As it turns out, Jackson and his writing team, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, made a significant contribution to Avatar. “When Neytiri is holding Jake and she’s just brought him back to consciousness, the 'I see you' line was suggested by them,” remembers Cameron. “It might have been Peter who said that.”

Blood Sport - how would you feel if every time you died in a game, you actually lost blood?

Nerdgasms

@ DAN-isms.com

Anyone who reads this blog knows I'm pretty open-minded... but this concept takes the cake.  Imagine if each time you died in a video game, you actually lost blood in doing so.  Well this is the real life concept of this system that attaches you a transfusion system linked to a console (video below).

Trailer release for Pan featuring Hugh Jackman and Amanda Seyfried

Nerdgasms

@ DAN-isms.com

I'd happily watch Hugh Jackman and Amanda Seyfriend in just about anything.  I mean I watched Hugh in the movie Australia which was essentially 90 minutes of a scripted tourism campaign, so the equivalent in pain-levels would probably be Amanda doing an advertisement for adult diapers - and yes, I'd watch it.

Hopefully 'Pan'- the latest Peter Pan remake - will fare better than either of those and even if it doesn't, you kow I'll still watch it.  Trailer below:

World record truck jump over a race-car

Why would you jump a truck over a racecar?  Because it's awesome.  Or as the LotusF1 Team said:

True Detective cast confirmed

So if you haven't watched any of True Detective then get off your ass and go watch it cause it's freaking brilliant.  I'm not even into cop-drama shows, in fact I normally hate that stuff and your cop-show has to basically be amazing to get me to watch it cause I think real life is filled with enough crime that I sure as balls don't want to watch it in my down time - but the characters of True Detective are so engaging, so strong, that I had to watch it.

Dinosaur nerds are losing their biscuits: Jurassic World teasers

Nerdgasms

@ DAN-isms.com

If that title makes no sense to you, that is my polite way of saying people are excited about the new Jurassic Park movie - "Jurassic World".  I personally was a massive dino-nut as a whee lad at the ripe old age of three was convinced that I would grow up to be either 1) a cowboy 2) a dinosaur - instead I grew to be 3) aware that both those things are extinct.

Regardless the Jurassic movies were delightful and my inner dino-nerd danced with delight for all of them so news of a continuation of the series was met with equal amounts of joy and happy-fun-times. So far only two teasers have been released, which you can see below:

Amazon Echo throws down with Siri

Nerdgasms

@ DAN-isms.com

Amazon Echo is a like Siri except not in a phone and you can stick it in your house somewhere and randomly yell things at it.  Ok it's probably cooler than that but in my head it sounds like the computer from Star Trek that you can ask things and it will know the answer because tech is now smarter than real people.

Snapcash: Snapchat isn't just about boobs anymore

But that's my opinion, check out the advertisment below and make up your own mind.

Nerdgasms

@ DAN-isms.com

Google Cars have made headlines for a while now but there had been criticism that a car that drives itself without user interaction is a bit eerie.  Well meet Tesla Motors response.  This is a standard sedan except that it has what could essentially be called cruise control on steriods.

The car is aware of speed and other road signs, where the lines on the road are and can even turn without any hands on the wheel.  Check out the video below.

Jeff Goldblum confirms Indepence Day sequel

Jeff Goldblum had a conversation with Time magazine recently where he confirmed that he will be returning to kick alien ass with plot twists that could have been done had the Aliens better IT Support or McCafee anti-virus installed on their alien space ship.

‘INDEPENDENCE DAY’ SEQUEL — JEFF GOLDBLUM CONFIRMS UPCOMING FILM

“I had a meeting and have been talking over the last several months or year with Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, the producer, and they’ve been cooking up and say they have a part for me in what they hope will be a plan to make another one pretty soon,” Jeff told Time magazine.
He continued on to saying, “they’re still talking about it and I’ve heard recent rumblings here and there about it, and “Oh, there’s a scripting coming in” — maybe last weekend there was a script handed in, so it’s brewing.”

Telltale's Game of Thrones news

Nerdgasms

@ DAN-isms.com

If you haven't played any of Telltale's point and click adventure games, you are missing out.  Their Walking Dead series pulls on your heart strings like no other adventure game I have ever played which is why I have high hopes for their next big project which is a Gamer of Thrones point and click episodic adventure.

The game will be six episodes long in a season called "Fire and Ice".  The game will have five playable characters all from the same family - if you don't understand the significance of that you need to pick up either the books or track down the TV series.  Each time you make a decision in this game it changes the story and has a lasting impact on each other family member in the series.

Watch the teaser below, just hearing that voice gives me goosebumps.

Science says gamers are better learners

Nerdgasms

@ DAN-isms.com

For a long time gamers have had to deal with the stigma promoting them as stupid people getting stupider by staring into a screen for long hours at a time.  While TV might not be doing much for you, gaming falls into it's own category thanks to it's basic requirement of forcing gamers to use their twitch reactions and snap decision-making powers.

According to lead researcher Daphne Bavelier,... games helps our brains become more efficient at building models, or “templates,” of the world, which enables us to better predict what will happen next. “The better the template, the better the performance,” she explains in a news-release. “And now we know playing action video games actually fosters better templates.”

Classic Star Wars behind the scenes pics

Nerdgasms

@ DAN-isms.com

When I was a kid I had Croup - like constantly.  It's pretty shitty, it involves a lot of coughing your lungs out of your body in a fashion that sounds a lot like a seal being violated.  In short I spent a lot of my early years wishing for a new pair of lungs - until the day a cinema in Brisbane did a back to back run all the first three Star Wars movies.

My eyes were so big you could have used them as a helicopter landing pad and my mother's retelling of this tale involves her amazement at my ability to sit still, absolutely silent without the need to go the bathroom, for hours.

Short version, I love Star Wars like other people enjoy oxygen.  I stumbled across this lovely collection of behind-the-scenes photography on the set of the original movies and looking at them gave me happy nostalgia feelings and I thought I'd share those with you.

Check out all the pics and explanations of them over here.

LFG: 10 years in WarCraft & the release of WOD

Today is the release of the new Blizzard World of Warcraft expansion - and I am giddy with anticipation (watch the Twitch stream that I will be guesting on, Magikthegamer.com from 20:00 AEST to follow my next round of WOW wins and failures).

I was first introduced to World of Warcraft (WOW) by my girlfriend.
Yeah, bet you didn't see that coming did you.

I love World of Warcraft, more for the experience than the game.  It has made me real life friends from around the globe who have flown from both interstate, and internationally, to come and hang out with myself and my girlfriend.  Now that, is freaking love.

It has also been the cause of some of the biggest dummy spits I have ever seen, or been a participent to.  WOW may be an online game, but it inspires real emotional responses.

A Batman fanboy in Australia has become the real-life hero of DC Comics fans everywhere by building his own street-legal Batmobile. 29-year-old Zac Mihajlovic might be lacking certain features (like the ability to climb walls), but at least it’s clearly the most stylish car on the road in Australia.

The Evil Dead series is my favourite movie series of alllllllll time.  I have seen ED3:Army of Darkness literally about 50 times.  Which is why I just went unbelievablely man moist when I saw that Starz has green lit an Evil Dead TV series, with Sam Raimi returning as producer and at least the pilot writer.

Oh yeah *cough* Bruce Campbell is reprising the role of Ash.

Terminator: Genisys - sneak peak

Nerdgasms

@ DAN-isms.com

Terminator 2 was the first movie I ever purchased with my own money.  It was a second hand VHS cassette tape, but it was mine, and I loved it. As you can therefore imagine, news that the franchise was continuing gives me happy feelings of nostalgia inside.

Returning us to the series is Terminator: Genisys, the first of three movies Paramount has plans to release of this franchise, set in 2029, when the human rebellion has Skynet on it's last legs.  The cast is made up of John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Jason Clark), his uncle Kyle Reese (Divergent's Jai Courtney), his mother Sarah Connor (Game of Thrones, Emilia Clark), and of course the one and only Arnold Schwarzneggar as an aging T100 cyborg.

Matt Smith of Dr Who fame also appears in this movie, but I have no idea who as.

It's due out July 1, 2015 - unfortunately not too much else is out on the movie at the moment but Entertainment Weekly got a hold of the teaser images below which I thought I'd share.

I didn’t expect to fall in love with the Fast and Furious (FF) franchise, but I did.  With the release of Furious 7, I couldn’t be more excited!

I want to point out that I’m not a car enthusiast, which is ironic as I work for a company that produces car accessories. My introduction to the series is thanks to the movie co-incidentally being on at the same time as my regularly scheduled date night with my girlfriend. If you’ve never taken to the time to watch a FF movie, sit back, relax—because I’m about to tell you everything you really need to know before the release of Furious 7, and why you should watch it.

Ex Machina: Blade Runner meets Pschological thriller

Nerdgasms

@ DAN-isms.com

I wasn't sure if I was going to like this movie.  Hollywood has a tendency to pandering to angry christian mums with PG-13 rubbish that makes my avoid the cinema like it's personally responsible for the re-introduction of leprosy.  Which is why this movie is such a pleasant surprise, for a start it's got an N-17 rating which you know means they aren't pandering to anyone - they made a movie, and now it's up to you as to whether it's something in your wheelhouse.  Bravo!

Personally I knew nothing about this movie before the trailer, I thought that maybe it was a spin on the Deus Ex gaming franchise, but it's clearly much more a case of Blade Runner meets psychological thriller - and that's completely my cup of tea.  Check out the trailer and see what you think.

Fury: A movie review

Nerdgasms

@ DAN-isms.com

Article Written by:
Andrew Muench

I love World War II movies. I love games about it. I love the technology and the history surrounding it so whenever a movie comes along that showcases it I'm generally immediately interested. Brad Pitt's been in war movies before, most recently as Aldo Raine in the satirical and magnificent Inglorious Basterds, but this time he takes command of the screen as Don "Wardaddy" Collier, commander of a M4A3E8 "Easy Eight" Sherman tank. "Fury" is a fantastic movie that is at times incredbily brutal in it's detail as it is incredibly personal to the tank's crew members and their interactions as they try to mesh together during the final month of the European Theater.
